Limoncello Frisky Fruit Salad

I love limoncello, a taste thrill from Italy.  Limoncello is a liqueur made from lemons and grain alcohol or vodka.  Don’t let the ingredients scare you.  It has the best lemon flavor for desserts and champagne cocktails.  I’m not kidding. Two of my most favorite things……lemon desserts and champagne. I must stay true to my Champagne Girl status.

If there is a dessert made with limoncello on the menu, I will order it, no matter what I have just eaten for dinner.  Most times I take a couple of bites, then, pass the dessert around the table.  It usually makes it into a to go box for a little snack the next day.

Here is a simple and delicious version of a fruit salad.  I used blueberries, strawberries, and banana.  You could add blackberries and raspberries in the mix as well. The fruit is macerated in a limoncello and sugar mixture.  Just before serving, top with the creamy yogurt and lemon curd mixture.  A refreshing end to a lazy Sunday afternoon supper.

Gravy Company adapted a little from: 2008, Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics recipe, Fruit Salad with Limoncello
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt or plain yogurt. Greek style is perfect
1/3 cup lemon curd
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pint strawberries, sliced
1 cup bluberries
1 banana, sliced
1 cup raspberries and/or blackberries, optional
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 tablespoons limoncello liqueur

In a small bowl, whisk together yogurt, lemon curd, honey, and vanilla.  Set aside at room temperature.

Fruit Salad:

In a large bowl, carefully toss together the berries, sugar, and limoncello.  Set it aside at room temperature for about 5 minutes to let the berries macerate with the sugar and liqueur.  Just before serving, gently fold the banana into the mixture.
Serve small bowls of fruit with a dollop of the lemon/yogurt topping on top.
Garnish with fresh mint. (Ina always has a garnie)
Note: You can use homemade Lemon Curd or store bought.

Thanks for stopping by. I found it at Lukas Liquor. I am sure any of the large liquor stores would carry it. I love it too!
